Italy
For many years, the central Mediterranean route has been the main route of migration to Europe. As such, Italy is at the center of the European refugee crisis. Refugees often reach Italy through dangerous sea voyages, even while arrivals through the Balkan route continue to grow. Italy works with international organizations and local NGOs to manage arrivals, offering temporary shelter, asylum processing, and integration programs while grappling with challenges related to overcrowded facilities and complex immigration policies. The Community Programs team in Italy is actively engaged with local nonprofit organizations, serving in the community, and developing opportunities for collecting and sharing refugee stories.
