COMMENTS FROM PAST INTERNS:
"I really enjoyed the Friday group sessions and discussing different stories that we read together. I felt it to be incredibly valuable and I learned a lot not only about TSOS, but refugee stories in general."
"TSOS was very flexible in requiring only one meeting for the small group category, one meeting with the large group towards the end of the week, and one assignment submission at the end of the week. An intern is able to balance his or her personal commitments. I was working and I was able to complete my internship."
"I am sad to end my internship because I want to continue my relationship and efforts even if small, in an arena that I believe is so important and truly has captured my heart. I want to use my free time to volunteer to this end and help refugees or write to that extent. I would feel very fulfilled especially professionally doing this because I feel I am getting more experience doing something I hope to do in the future."
"I have learned so much here in a short time, and am changed for the better. I have learned a lot more about refugees issues and the forces that make people refugees and what can benefit their experience. I have a responsibility to that new knowledge."
"I actually already gave the name to a peer of mine at school and have talked about it with members of my family. I think the internship experience in general is great and an excellent way to get into advocacy and research, while focusing on stories."
"I had a great experience, and I learned about the importance of storytelling, why stories are so powerful, and why refugees need a platform to share their unique individual stories in the way they want them to be told."
"I learned new skills by transcribing interviews. I learned the power of stories."
"I grew in my ability to research, read, and interpret legislation pertaining to refugee integration."
"I was taught the importance of truly listening to those you are serving in order to understand them and learn how to best help them."
"I learned about what we can do as individuals to help refugees in our community."
