Elwaad Samatar is a determined first-generation graduate of Arizona State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Aspiring to become a physician, Elwaad is passionately dedicated to advocating for underserved communities. Her research interests center on refugee mental health and the effects of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on Somali refugee women, reflecting her deep commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for marginalized population.

Elwaad is the founder of Their Story is Our Story's (TSOS) Changemakers campus chapter at Arizona State University and also participated as an advocacy intern with TSOS in Fall 2022.
